Justin Bieber Wins Big At The 2012 AMAs

By November 19, 2012

Bieber Fever was certainly in the air last night as the newly single singer pretty much dominated the 2012 American Music Awards, held at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles.

Bieber won the first award of the night, Favorite Male Artist-Pop/Rock. After hugging his mom, he took the stage, and immediately took on his detractors, “I want to say this is for all the haters who thought maybe I was here for one or two years, but I feel like I’m going to be here for a very long time.” He went on to win Album of the Year for Believe and the biggie, Artist of the Year. In your face, haters!

Bieber’s good fortune also seemed to rub off on his protege, Call Me Maybe singer, Carly Rae Jepsen, who picked up honors for Best New Artist.

The night took a somber turn to pay tribute to Whitney Houston and AMA founder Dick Clark, who both died this year. Clark created the AMAs 40 years ago. As images from Clark’s incredible career played on massive screens, music icon Stevie Wonder played a touching medley of some of his biggest hits, including Sir Duke and My Cherie Amour. Clark’s widow, Karen, was in the audience.

On a night filled with memorable performances, a few truly stood out, including a tribal-inspired number by Ke$ha:

an emotional performance by Pink:

and a little theatrical cray cray from the night’s other big winner, Nicki Minaj.

But the best was definitely saved for last, when viral smash hit Gangnam Style got a little old school flavor as MC Hammer joined Korean superstar Psy to close out the show.

Congratulations to all of last night’s winners!
