Several weeks ago, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. released the first official look at actor Gabriel Luna in costume as Robbie Reyes in the show’s upcoming fourth season, wearing the iconic leather jacket and sitting next to the character’s muscle car from the comics as well. However, the image didn’t reveal what Reyes will look like when he transforms into his full Ghost Rider form in the series, leaving the actual Ghost Rider character a mystery… Until now, anyways.
Yahoo! TV has unveiled the first image of Reyes in his post-Ghost Rider transformation today, with that iconic fiery skull and all. Though, for anyone out there hoping for some seriously impressive, better than usual ABC TV special effects with the character, you might be a bit disappointed.
Before we get to anything else though, check out the first image below:
Unlike all of the other Ghost Riders from the comics, Robbie Reyes’ isn’t connected to a demon that gives him the Spirit of Vengeance form, but is instead possessed by a satanic serial killer, Eli Morrow, though whether or not Agents keeps that same origin story is still unknown. For show executive Jeff Bell however, the inclusion of Reyes to the show’s roster,“opens up a whole different kind of storytelling for us.”
Ghost Rider’s introduction, in addition to the show’s new 10pm time slot, means that the series can go to a lot “darker and sexier” places as well though, according to cast member Chloe Bennet:
“If anyone’s familiar with the Robbie Reyes version of Ghost Rider. These massive themes [are] being threaded throughout our season.”
The kinds of questions that Ghost Rider brings about vengeance, good, evil, and who does and doesn’t deserve to die will all, hopefully, be interesting dilemmas that the show’s main cast of characters will all have to deal with. We know that Reyes runs into Bennet’s Quake fairly early on in the season (it doesn’t seem to go all that well) though, so here’s to hoping we won’t have to wait long before those two conflicting ideals come into contact.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set to return with its fourth season on Tuesday, September 20th.
