Alamo Drafthouse Bringing Original ‘Star Wars’ Trilogy to Theaters This Summer

By April 17, 2016

For anyone who has never seen the original Star Wars trilogy in theaters, or those who’d love a chance to do so again, here’s some good news: this summer, Alamo Drafthouse will be bringing A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi to over 20 cities this August (c/o Variety). The screenings, which will feature the 1997 re-release formats, will take place as single day triple-features and will extra features like special video content, contests, and props.

Alamo Drafthouse’s VP of Special Events Henri Mazza had this to say:

It’s always been a dream to show the original ‘Star Wars’ trilogy again — somehow, someway…Seeing the original trilogy on the big screen for the first time is a real life-altering event and just a supreme amount of fun. When the films became available to book for screenings like these, we jumped at the chance to do something big.

The purist in me really wishes this was the actual original, unaltered trilogy, but this should still be plenty cool. Every Star Wars fan should get to see these movies on the big screen at least once, so it’s great that those who haven’t will finally have a chance.

Tickets for the event will go on sale on May 4th (ah…clever) at the Alamo Drafthouse website. Check out the schedule of screenings below and mark your calendars now.
