Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart are two of the biggest names in comedy right now, and when their powers combine, the result could be pretty special. The actors will star in a film called Get Hard that already has a 2015 release date penciled in, and now the film has become a little bit less of a sausage party: Deadline reports that “Community” star Alison Brie has signed on to join the comedy titans.
In Get Hard, Ferrell plays a rich investment bank manager who is wrongly convicted of a crime, so he turns to the man who washes his car (Hart) to help him prepare for prison. Ferrell is often at his funniest when he’s frazzled, so here’s hoping he spends most of the movie in hysterics while Hart riffs on ways to calm him down and keep him safe in the slammer. Brie, a new addition to the cast, will play Ferrell’s fiancee.
Since I’ve been a fan of “Community” since the pilot aired, I’m obviously a fan of Alison Brie. She’s had a decent run of work on the big screen – she was fine in The Five-Year Engagement and The Kings of Summer, great in The LEGO Movie, and very good in the little-seen indie Save the Date – but it’s her TV work (on “Community” and “Mad Men”) that really has people’s attention. Here’s hoping Get Hard will be more of a showcase for her comedic talents instead of just another opportunity for a tiny supporting role.
The project will be directed by Etan Cohen (not to be confused with Coen brother Ethan Coen). Etan Cohen wrote Idiocracy, Tropic Thunder, and Men in Black 3, and this will mark his feature directorial debut. Ian Roberts, an actor who has appeared alongside Ferrell in Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Semi Pro, and Step Brothers, wrote the Get Hard screenplay with Jay Martel, one of Roberts’ fellow executive producers of “Key & Peele.” Roberts is also one of the founding members of the Upright Citizens Brigade, so it seems there’s no lack of hilarious people on board with this movie. This definitely has the potential to be one of 2015’s funniest films, but we’ll have to wait until March 27th, 2015 to find out for sure.
Excited about Brie joining these guys in Get Hard? Which film do you think contains her best performance so far?
