Start your engines, DC lovers everywhere. As we gear up for March 25th’s Dawn of Justice, the floodgates are prepped for a rush of news and casting announcements. The DCU is here. So what’s on the dock first? How about some Aquaman news?

Looks like The Hollywood Reporter drew first blood; they are reporting that Amber Heard (Magic Mic) is in talks to play Mera, eventual Queen of Atlantis; and that she will first appear in Justice League.

Here’s their report:

Heard will play Mera, the love interest of Aquaman and eventual queen of Atlantis. First appearing in 1963, the character’s powers include the ability to control and even solidify water.

James Wan has been attached to direct for some time with reports saying that two different scripts are being worked on concurrently. Meaning, they’re trying to hit the best story at the same time, obviously pitting two screenwriters against each other – in a Thunderdome type scenario where only one writer will walk out alive– wait. No, that doesn’t sound right. Anyways…

First writer up is David Leslie Johnson, a writer on Wan’s The Conjuring 2. Second writer is Kurt Johnstad, writer of Zack Snyder’s 300. It’s anyone’s guess who’s draft will be used since both writers have strong ties to director/producer. My thunderdome idea is still on the table, Warners…

Since Heard will first be seen in Justice League to set up her character, as well as Momoa’s Aquaman, we look to April of 2016 as go time for all those involved. Justice League has a premiere set for  Nov. 17, 2017 with Aquaman due July 27, 2018.

We’ll keep you updated on her status if/when she signs on the dotted line. But it looks like this is a done deal.
