‘American Gods’ Adds Orlando Jones as One of Mr. Wednesday’s Closest Friends

By June 15, 2016

Following the recent addition of Gillian Anderson as Media (a casting decision I’m still excited about), Starz’s upcoming adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s American Gods has added yet another interesting actor to its cast, as one of the most trusted confidants to Ian McShane’s Mr. Wednesday in the series. Continuing to cement the American Gods cast as one of the most interesting and exciting in television history. And no, I’m not overexaggerating either.

Starz and FreemantleMedia North America have announced today that Sleepy Hollow star, Orlando Jones, has been cast in the new series as Anansi, who like Mr. Wednesday, is ready to see the new America (and the new gods” brought to their news, and would gladly watch the whole world burn down to the ground.

The new series from Michael Green and Bryan Fuller (Hannibal, Pushing Daises) also added Demore Barnes (12 Monkeys) as well, as Mr Ibis, the keeper of stories from both the past and present, who retells them with great relish from time to time.

Based on the beloved novel by Gaimain, the story follows Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle), an ex-con who becomes the bodyguard and traveling partner to Mr. Wednesday, a con man who in all actuality is one of the world’s older gods, as the two travel across country as Wednesday gathers his forces for a battle with the new deities.

I don’t really know how many times I can say that you should be excited for American Gods at this point. With talents like Fuller and Green acting as showrunners, adapting from such beloved source material, and featuring a cast of such high-caliber actors, it’s quickly become one of the most highly-anticipated new shows in development right now. Though, anything with Bryan Fuller involved at this point could probably warrant that kind of excitement anyways.

American Gods will premiere on Starz in 2017.
