When Marvel Studios and Sony first announced that they would be partnering up for a new Spider-Man film franchise, one of the biggest promises they made was that the new films would be capitalizing on the character’s inclusion in the MCU with as much crossover from the other Marvel characters as possible. With Robert Downey Jr. already confirmed to be appearing in next year’s Spider-Man: Homecoming, as well as other rumored characters, it seems like the two studios are very much living up to their promise with Homecoming.
One of the biggest obstacles currently facing the movie though, in terms of other MCU characters being included, is its placement in the timeline following Captain America: Civil War, which left the entire Avengers team fractured and a number of the biggest players currently on the run or in hiding.
However, actress Scarlett Johansson has been reportedly seen near the film’s set in Atlanta, GA several times over the past few weeks (via Comicbook.com), though the reports have never been officially confirmed. Coming just a week after the initial reports though, the Atlanta Filming Twitter Account (which keeps tabs on these things) has posted a new message which seems to hint at Johansson’s presence on the film’s set as well.
Well, well… hi Scarlett. What’cha doing here?

It should be noted however, that no official photos were posted of the actress on set, so take all of this with a grain of salt for the time being.
I imagine that Tony Stark won’t be the only Avenger appearing in Homecoming if I’m being completely honest, though he’ll probably be the character with the largest role and screen time in it. With that being said, Johansson’s Black Widow is an interesting name to throw into the mix, considering she had a very limited amount of interaction with Peter in Civil War, and is currently on the run with her and Tony’s relationship on rough footing right now as well.
It’s possible that Johansson could just be visiting the movie’s set, which isn’t unheard of when it comes to MCU actors. Or we might want to keep our eyes open for a Black Widow cameo in the film. Either way, there’s no denying one thing – these are some very exciting times for MCU fans right now, especially for those like myself, who are watching Homecoming‘s progress with fervent excitement.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to hit theatres on July 7th, 2017.
