Arnold Schwarzenegger To Star in Zombie Flick ‘Maggie’

By June 21, 2013

Following today’s release of Paramount’s global zombie thriller World War Z, Variety reports that Arnold Schwarzenegger wants in on some zombie movie action. After seven years of serving as the Governator for the great state of California, Schwarzenegger will produce and star in the upcoming zombie film Maggie.

Directed by designer-turned-director Henry Hobson and produced by a massive team of producers (which includes Schwarzenegger), Maggie tells the tale of a father who helps his teenaged daughter accept her fate of becoming a zombie after being infected with a “walking dead” virus.

Maggie is a 16-year-old from Smalltown, U.S.A. who finds herself infected by a zombie…pretty standard storyline, right? What makes Maggie different is that instead of turning into said zombie in a matter of days or even minutes, it takes her six months to fully transition, presenting plenty of opportunities for drama between her and dear old Dad as she heads further along toward the path of the undead.

Silver Reel and Lotus Entertainment teams up with Silverlining Media Group and Gold Star films to produce and finance while sitting as executive producers (alongside producers Pierre-Ange Le Pogam, Matt Baer, Trevor Kaufman, Colin Bates and Joey Tufaro) are Bill Johnson, Jim Seibel, Ara Keshishian, Hubert Gibbs, Claudia Bluemhuber and writer John Scott 3.

Holy geez, got enough producers?

No word who’ll play the title role as of yet; originally Chloe Moretz (Let Me In, Kick-Ass) was attached, but then had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts.

As evidenced by this 2010 Resistance 3 trailer, it’s obvious that rookie director Hobson has a nice aesthetic…

…but will that carry out into a full-blown film? With production scheduled to start in the fall, it’ll be interesting to see Schwarzenegger in a role where his physical stature won’t be his primary asset.

But don’t worry, kids; Arnie has two films (Escape Plan, Breacher) about to hit theaters, he’s signed on for Terminator 5, & Expendables 3, AND he sold a new drama (“Pump”) to Showtime.

What do you think about seeing Schwarzenegger in a zombie movie? Weirder things have happened, I guess…right?

As always, stay tuned.
