The fourth season of The CW’s Arrow wasn’t particularly well-received – especially after that divisive season finale – but producers of the hit show are hoping to give fans a little something extra to look forward to next season, with a new friend – or foe – that Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell) must contend with. A report from TV Line says that Season 5 will “introduce the recurring role of a cocksure/reckless ex-Marine turned vigilante.”
Scanning through the list of possible DC Comics characters, there doesn’t seem to be anyone who fits this description – except maybe John Stewart, before he recited the oath and took up the Green Lantern mantle. Of course, we’ve already heard that Green Lantern will not be coming to the Arrowverse – but that doesn’t necessarily mean Stewart couldn’t show up, right?
As far as Oliver’s position as the Mayor, showrunner Wendy Mericle has confirmed this will continue to be a major part of the show’s upcoming fifth season, telling TV Line “City Hall, that institution, is crucial to our series.” And don’t expect those flashbacks to go away any time soon, as Mericle says they’ll continue to fill in the blanks of Oliver’s past:
“It’s a very good possibility that we’ll finally find out how he got that Bratva tattoo and how he learned to speak Russian. When Oliver says, ‘No one can know my secret’ and he kills that guy in the pilot, we’re going to get some insight into that.”
Arrow returns for Season 5 this fall, exclusively on The CW.
