As the Captain America: Civil War press tour has gone on over the past month or so, The Russo Brothers and the rest of the creative team at Marvel have been talking about Avengers: Infinity War quite a lot, including the film’s unique Nashville-esque structure and number of lead characters from the MCU that will be making appearances throughout.
And it looks like, keeping in line with the Russo’s comments about Part 1 and Part 2 being much different films than fans might think, the films will be receiving a bit of a makeover between now and when they’re finally released in theatres.
While recently speaking with UPROXX, The Russos revealed that both Infinity War Part 1 and Part 2 will be retitled sometime in the coming months, to help differentiate the two films from each other:
“The movies are two very different movies. It is misleading. The intention is we will change it, we just haven’t come up with the titles yet. But, yes, we will change it. And, yes, that is a scoop: we will retitle them.”
So basically, it’s sounding more and more like Infinity War will not be the straightforward epic story that we might have thought, and that the incomplete titles may have indicated. Going into the film just last month even, I think everybody sort of assumed both movies would be only about Thanos’ crusade to gather together all of the Infinity Stones for the Infinity Gauntlet, and of course, conquer the entire world.
While that very well might still be what the two films are about, it doesn’t sound like the tones or the story itself of each film, will be all that similar, and it begs the question of what other titles The Russos, Kevin Feige, Markus and McFeely, might have in mind for the two projects. They’ve been set up to be the entire culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe up until this point, but it sounds like that may not be as straightforward and clear cut as the description suggests.
Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 will be released on May 4th, 2018, while Part 2 will hit theatres on May 3rd, 2019.
