Batman: Arkham Knight is easily one of the most highly anticipated video games of 2015, set to finish off the story begun in 2009’s Batman: Arkham Asylum, and continued in 2011’s Batman: Arkham City. Developed by acclaimed game designers Rocksteady Studios, Arkham Knight will be the studio’s finale with Batman, and the legacy they’ve created with the first two games in the series have created a lot of pressure for the latest game to deliver. With recent news — like the game receiving an M-rating from the ESRB in order to preserve the story the team wanted to tell, as well as the game map being much larger than Arkham City‘s — buzz has been persistently solid.
For awhile, people have known that pre-ordering the game would allow access to DLC content centered around Harley Quinn, the Joker’s sidekick, part-time girlfriend, and a threatening villain in her own right. We didn’t really know any details about the content until recently, though, when a listing appeared on Amazon (via Arkhamverse) that actually tells us that these won’t merely be challenge maps: it’ll be a story mission. The listing reads,
For the first time in the Arkham series take on the role of Joker’s psychotic side-kick Harley Quinn and wreak havoc inside the Blüdhaven Police Department. With this exclusive Story Pack experience events in the lead-up to Arkham Knight as you infiltrate Blüdhaven to rescue your partner in crime: Poison Ivy. Delve deep into Harley’s demented nature and utilize her devastating baseball bat to smash, crash and bash your way to a friend very much in need.
As comic book fans are keenly aware, the city of Blüdhaven lies to the north of Gotham, and has garnered the most fame as the city that Nightwing — Batman’s former protégé and the original Robin — would protect. It should prove interesting to see exactly what events of the main Arkham Knight story will be set in motion by this prologue starring Harley Quinn, who saw the Joker die at the hands of Batman (at least, that’s what she believes happened).
Batman: Arkham Knight will be released on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on June 23rd. For more on the game as we get closer to its release, keep an eye on GeekNation!
