‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ Casts Bruce Wayne’s Parents

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is just two months away, and typing that sentence just made me very happy. The film, which is set to kick off DC’s Cinematic Universe, already features an impressive cast list. According to EW, however, that list just added two more names.

Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan will be playing the roles of Martha and Thomas Wayne in a brief cameo. Those characters are, of course, the parents of Bruce (played by Ben Affleck) and their murder is what sends him on the path to becoming Batman. While this is a story that is very familiar to fans, it’s still no surprise that this new film will spend a few minutes covering it. Given that this version of Batman will reportedly be different than any we’ve seen before, no doubt the retelling of his origin story will be unlike any of its previous incarnations.

Cohan has played Maggie on The Walking Dead since season 2 of that show. Her film husband, Morgan, will be joining The Walking Dead this season to play the role of the infamous villain, Negan. He’s also previously appeared in BvS director Zack Snyder’s film Watchmen, playing the role of The Comedian. No word yet on whether either of them will be reprising their roles as the Waynes in any of the future DC films (like, say, the solo Batman movie).

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice comes out on March 25, 2016.
