‘Batman v Superman’ Images Give New Context to Familiar Scenes

By September 5, 2015

It seems like the anticipation train for DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, has had a bit of a bumpy ride up until this point. I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that Man of Steel seemed to disappoint more people than it enthralled, and it seems like the fans are extremely skeptical of what DC is planning to do in this post-Nolan phase of their comic book films. However, when the new trailer debuted at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con, it seemed like everything changed among the fans. The trailer looked like it not only silenced a lot of the skeptics and preemptive haters for the movie, but also seemed to excite fans even more.

Whether or not this means that the film will be able to live up to its own hype is another story altogether, but at least there seems to be a nearly unanimous excitement for the film, something that I don’t think has been present since its original SDCC announcement a few years ago.

Some new images from the film were released online earlier today, and while they don’t show anything new or reveal new details necessarily, they do help to give a little bit more context to some of the more vague scenes in the trailers, and where some of our characters are at when the movie begins. Oh, and there’s a pretty cool new look at the Batmobile too. Check them all out below:

Like the rest of the movie hopefully, it looks like it’s a combination of what made the Nolan movies so great, along with the comic book and graphic novel-heavy influences present throughout. Almost every image from the movie so far has looked like it could have been pulled from a graphic novel, and while some might not see that as necessarily a good thing, I think its an ambitious and confident move on the part of the filmmakers.

Director Zack Snyder can be hit or miss with a majority of his projects, but with a script revised by Argo screenwriter Chris Terrio, and some incredible talent onscreen, hopefully this ends up being one of his best outings to date. The clear homages to iconic comic stories like “The Dark Knight Returns” are as blatant as they can be, but the movie looks like its going to be doing some interesting things that comic book and movie fans have never seen before too. Now, I guess we’ll just have to sit and hope that the movie ends up earning our excitement.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to hit theatres on March 25th, 2016.
