Word on DC’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice has been fairly low over the past few weeks, and I guess there really isn’t a better way to raise awareness again than having Superman himself join Instagram right? Henry Cavill has officially joined the popular social media platform earlier today, and he celebrated by releasing the new cover for the next issue of Total Film magazine. The cover features Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman, and Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) assembled together in their own various poses, and while its not much, it should act as a fairly healthy reminder to fans that in just a few short months they’re going to be seeing these three comic book icons appearing together onscreen.
Some new images were officially released from the film as well, and while a majority of them are shots that we’ve already seen in some of the previously released trailers, they’re still cool and offer new perspectives on the scenes. There’s also a new shot of Affleck’s Batman in action during filming it looks like, and it seems like he might be even more menacing than fans had already expected.
Check out the cover and images below:
What I love about these images surprisingly enough, is how different each of the three titans look, and I have a feeling that the film’s success will depend on how well each hero’s individual style and characterization combines with the others in the actual story. The biggest selling point of the movie is undoubtedly the idea of getting to see these characters together, and while that’ll be enough to get fans into the theatre for the first time, the film will have to portray each of them well enough for people to see it more than once.
Man of Steel failed to hook as many viewers as DC and Warner Bros. probably wanted, and Batman v Superman is going to have to deliver on every level if the studio wants to make their fans excited about their Cinematic Universe again. Bringing in an accomplished screenwriter like Chris Terrio to help tighten the film’s story and tone too, is one major step in the right direction and a big reason I’ve gained a lot more confidence in the project again. Affleck’s Batman looks like a refreshing change of pace from the past versions too, and no matter what the results end up being, there’s no denying that Zack Snyder and co. are swinging for the fences with this one. Now we’ll just have to see if they get a home run or strike out.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is set to hit theatres on March 25th, 2016.
