Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns Will Apparently Have Complete Creative Control Over the Solo ‘Batman Movie’

After years of speculating and theories from fans, as well as confirmation of a script’s existence, DC and Warner Bros. finally confirmed that a solo Batman film directed and co-written by Ben Affleck and DC Entertainment CCO, Geoff johns, was in development a few weeks ago, leading many to find newfound faith in the future of the DC Cinematic Universe. Or at the very least, their standalone, not-directed-by-Zack-Snyder films that is.

However, there have been concerns from fans about how much the studio’s involvement in the DC films might be hurting the projects more than helping, as well as worrying that Batman v Superman director Zack Snyder may be way too involved in the rest of the DCCU films.

According to a new report from Heroic Hollywood though, apparently Affleck and Johns will have “complete creative control” over the solo Batman film, which means they’ll have the final call on every decision regarding the film, including it’s look, story, tone, characters, etc. etc. So it doesn’t sound like Zack Snyder will be leaving any fingerprints on this one, and yes, I will give you a moment to celebrate.

Affleck has already been touted by many as the best onscreen Batman yet, and I think it’s fair to say that his relationship with Jeremy Irons’ Alfred Pennyworth was one of Dawn of Justice‘s few highlights, which left many fans calling out for an Affleck-directed Batman solo film.

For what it’s worth as well, it’s seemed like Geoff Johns has his head on straight when it comes to what the DC movies need, and after the presentation he helped to give earlier this year (alongside Kevin Smith), it seemed like out of everyone else - he should be the Kevin Feige for DC, and it sure as hell should not be a flawed filmmaker like Zack Snyder.

So the news of him co-writing a Batman film with Ben Affleck, and with the freedom that they deserve to give the character the standalone movie that he deserves, is enough to make me even more excited than I already was for this project. I just wish it was coming out before Snyder’s Justice League films.

The Batman solo movie does not currently have a release date.
