It was just two weeks ago when we got our first official look at Oscar winner J.K. Simmons as Commissioner James Gordon in the upcoming Justice League film, and we already know that Simmons will reprise his role for the standalone Batman film that Ben Affleck will write and direct.
But later this month, Affleck and Simmons will share the screen in Gavin O’Connor’s thriller The Accountant, something Simmons told Coming Soon was creating excitement for him again:
“For me, it was another example of getting to be a supporting guy and getting to work with Ben again.”
Affleck, meanwhile, had his own comments about the differences between donning the cape and cowl in someone else’s film, and suiting up for a project he’ll also helm:
“Movies are all about the director. I’ve learned that, finally. When you work with a director, you’re on his or her ship. You’re going in that direction. Your job is to be creative and bring forth your ideas, but to fulfill this person’s vision of how they’re telling the whole story. You have a silo that you’re responsible for in your performance.
For me, it’s about getting as in-tune with a director as possible. You’re making their movie … The nice thing about acting is that, if the set falls down, you can just go back to your trailer. Things are not my problem.”
These comments prompted a somewhat amusing response from Simmons, who quipped:
“I’m trying to wrap my mind around the whole ‘director is God’ thing. There might be some of that going on in the future. Wow. What am I in for?”
While Justice League recently wrapped filming in London and is scheduled to hit theaters next year, there are no official dates – or even a title – for the standalone Batman film. Affleck declined to offer an update on the project, simply telling journalists it was “way too far off” to begin discussing (although rumors have the film pegged for release in late 2018).
The Accountant will hit theaters Oct. 14, with Affleck and Simmons reuniting onscreen for Justice League on Nov. 10, 2017.
