It looks like The Mandarin will return to the Marvel universe, but where exactly will he pop up? That’s the question on our minds after actor Sir Ben Kingsley revealed to the Belfast Telegraph (via Comic Book Movie) that he recently filmed a secret project for the studio. In case you have an incredibly short memory, Kingsley played The Mandarin in this summer’s Iron Man 3, but in one of the summer’s most pleasant surprises, it was revealed that – spoilers ahead, by the way – Iron Man’s fearsome terrorist adversary was nothing more than an aloof actor who went by the name Trevor Slattery. Here’s what Kingsley told the Telegraph:
It’s a secret Marvel project. I’m not allowed to say any more, you’re going to have to wait and see. I was with many members of the crew that were involved in Iron Man 3. It was lovely to see them again. It was great to be with this wonderful family. I think they have enormous taste as creative artists. There’s nothing lazy or gratuitous about their work. They are at the top of their game, and they’re great company to keep.
Let the speculation begin: do you think Kingsley will cameo in one of Marvel’s upcoming would-be blockbusters, or are you leaning more toward a One Shot (ala Agent Carter) for an upcoming Blu-ray/DVD release? And will he appear as Trevor, or will The Mandarin make another appearance? Or, perhaps, will Trevor be playing another character altogether? I’m hoping for the latter, but we’ll be glad to see Kingsley back in the Marvel fold since he was such a great addition to Iron Man 3.
Sound off with your guesses about this mystery project below!
