After a critically-acclaimed first season, in which the series managed to live up to and exceed fans’ expectations following the incredible run of Breaking Bad, AMC’s Better Call Saul has finally receieved its season 2 premiere date. The series, which focuses entirely on Bob Odenkirk’s character from the original series, will catch back up with Jimmy McGill once more following the life-changing decision he was left with at the end of the first season. Jonathan Banks’ Mike Ehrmantraut is also expected to make his return, after viewers managed to fall even more in love with the fan-favorite character following his enthralling storyline last season.
After months of little-to-no news too, AMC has officially revealed some new details regarding the season’s story and characters, and it looks like fans won’t have to wait much longer to see their favorite characters return.
The network has revealed that season 2 of Better Call Saul will premiere on Monday, February 15th, picking up one night after The Walking Dead begins the second half of season six, which means those will likely be two, very important days for all of you die-hard TV fans out there. Saul season 2 showrunner, Peter Gould, also revealed a new description for the show’s sophomore season with the announcement, which you can find below:
“Jimmy McGill’s journey takes surprising, left-handed turns in Season 2 He goes to places we’d never, ever expected. As for Mike Ehrmantraut, he’s pulled deeper into a world he was sure he’d left forever. We can’t wait to share the next chapter of Better Call Saul with the fans who have embraced the show.”
This news also comes following the recent premiere of Odenkirk’s return to Mr. Show on Netflix’s W/ Bob and David this past weekend, making this a pretty great few days for Odenkirk. Better Call Saul provided him with the awards attention he’d deserved for years too, and seeing him return to the role in season 2 will hopefully bring the same kind of buzz and reception once again. As someone who approached the spin-off series somewhat skeptical too, I was pleasantly surprised by not only how good of a series it was, but also how it managed to cleanly separate itself from its Breaking Bad roots, and here’s to hoping season 2 continues that same trend.
Better Call Saul season 2 will premiere on AMC on Monday, February 15th.
