Bill Murray Continues His Rule As Coolest Person Ever, Gives Advice At Bachelor Party

By now, the stories of Bill Murray’s off-screen exploits are as legendary as his film career. He’s recited poetry for construction workers, sung karaoke with complete strangers, jumped behind the bar during SXSW and served everyone tequila, went to a random house party and washed the dishes, and when one guy asked him for an autograph, Murray insisted they film a video in which he walked in slow motion through a hallway with the dude instead. Basically, he’s the greatest.

Continuing his rule as the coolest person on Earth, Deadspin reports that Murray delivered a toast this past weekend to a bachelor party in Charleston, South Carolina, and there’s video to prove it. A little background:

Over Memorial Day weekend, 20 of my buddies from Boston College got together in Charleston for our friend EJ’s bachelor party. At one point during dinner at a steakhouse, one guy goes to the bathroom downstairs and sees Bill Murray sitting with some people with a fishing vest on. We talked to the waiter to see if we could send him some drinks, to which Bill declined. One of my buddies then went down and asked if he’d come up and say a few words for EJ and got a “No thanks.” My buddy comes back up dejected and tells us it’s not going to happen. Two minutes later, Bill fucking Murray walks into the room and gives this speech.

Great advice.

I actually met Mr. Murray during the press junket for The Monuments Men earlier this year, and he was quiet, reserved, and almost shy – not exactly the kind of person you’d immediately assume would be making people smile by doing all of these awesome random things all over the world. But that makes it even better: he may not always be in a gregarious mood, but when he is, he makes someone’s year by doing something amazing like giving a speech at a bachelor party. Rock on, Bill.
