‘Captain America: Civil War’ Reportedly ‘Testing Through the Roof’

By January 29, 2016

Captain America The Winter Soldier was one of  those movies that surprised the hell out of me. When first I heard ‘the guys from Community were picked to direct,’ I was very skeptical. This was, of course, before I really knew anything about The Russo Brothers and their style, humor and, well everything. I worried about two “sitcom guys” directing a Marvel movie and since it was a Captain America Marvel movie, I further worried it was going to be Marvel’s first misstep.

I was way off.

Winter Soldier is, arguably, the best Marvel movie of the bunch. I would tend to argue that point over and over again for it (some might claim the original Avengers is the best); and it has everything to do with the Russo Bros. They nailed Cap. They nailed story and action. They nailed pretty much everything so much so that even the Honest Trailer guys over at Screen Junkies couldn’t land a single ‘honest’ critique so you’ll find no honest trailer on the matter. Makes a lot of sense Marvel bringing them back for the third sequel Captain America: Civil War.

Now the big question is: will it be as good or better than Winter Solider? According to Devin Faraci over at Birth.Movies.Death, might be both.

Here’s how he put it:

[EDIT] …because the film has been testing exceptionally well. I have talked to a whole bunch of sources – about five at this point – and they all agree that test audiences have loved the movie. In fact, the only thing they disagree on is whether the movie tested as well as or better than Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which had previously been the best-testing Marvel movie.

It started when Devin reported some reshoots currently happening and to not get alarmed. Movies reshoot all the time and it’s no different here. He then went into the reasons why, as referenced above in his quote. And when I read the report and thought about the source material, the directors and actors and writers, and Marvel in general; I wasn’t surprised.

I’m still cautious to go over the moon based on this news alone but since the last time this happened was for Winter Soldier, I can’t help but smile from ear to ear. Of course I want this to be good. Of course I want this to be successful. And, of course, I want it to be even better than Winter Soldier! Just save some energy for Avengers Infinity War Russo’s!

Devin goes on to mention some more info on the ‘dark’ tone rumored to be intrinsic to the plot:

Further, my sources tell me that the movie doesn’t pull any punches in the third act, and that if Marvel execs had been concerned about the film going dark places, these stellar test screenings have alleviated all those fears. So if the test screening audiences are right we’re looking at a movie at least as good as Winter Soldier, which could be argued as the best Marvel movie yet.

Fans of the comics will, perhaps, know what to expect if, in fact, they do go to [those] ‘dark places’ in the movie (no spoilers here). I’m not going to speculate any more than I already have – I trust Devin’s sources as he’s not the type of person to blow smoke up people’s ass. Nor is he one to be a plant for Marvel in order to spread good cheer over the interwebs. This is just some really awesome and promising news for Marvel fans.

In the Russo’s we trust.
