With a number of new, and important heroes and villains set to make their onscreen debuts in Captain America: Civil War, it’s easy to understand how some characters might get lost in between the cracks. However, with Martin Freeman’s currently unknown new addition to the MCU, it feels like Marvel has done an especially good job at keeping the character’s identity a mystery, up until this point at least.
In a new issue of Empire though, Marvel has officially revealed Freeman to be playing Everett Ross in the film, who as you can tell from the photo above, works closely with Emily VanCamp’s Agent 13. In the comics, Everett is a supporting character in the Black Panther world, and is a foremost expert on Wakanda, the society that Black Panther hails from and rules.
In the film, Everett is a member of the Joint Counter Terrorist Centre, and judging by the image above, will likely have a notable role in the Germany events of the film, which have already been highly-reported on over the past few months. How closely his interactions with Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther in the film remain a mystery, but with both Everett and Andy Serkis’ Ulysses Klaw (Avengers: Age of Ultron) already set up in the MCU, it’s nice to see the Black Panther franchise already being given close attention from the studio and story teams.
In addition to this reveal, the Empire issue also came with a slew of new images from the film, including a hi-def look at Frank Grillo’s returning Crossbones, Elizabeth Olsen’s Scarlet Witch, and more. Check out the images below:
Crossbones’ relationship with Cap in the film has already been teased during the trailer at last year’s D23 Expo, but after his outing as a full-fledged Hydra agent in The Winter Soldier, it looks like his presence will be even more prominent in Civil War than the film’s predecessor. Although, with more than enough heroes and villains vying for their fair share of screen time, it’ll be interesting to see just how large of a role Crossbones will end up having in the film.
Captain America: Civil War is set to hit theatres on May 6th.
