‘Captain America: Civil War’ Trailer and Poster Debuts During Jimmy Kimmel Live!

By November 24, 2015

You aren’t going to read this part, are you? You’re just going to skip to the trailer, right? Ok then. Talk soon.

Oh my.

Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. appeared on tonight’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live to debut that beautiful piece of trailer-ness. At least, I think that’s what happened, I’m on the west coast so the show hasn’t aired yet. But the trailer is currently available on Kimmel’s YouTube channel and…I mean…this thing looks SICK, right? So much to discuss.

And here’s Disney/Marvel’s synopsis and official poster!

Captain America Civil War_Teaser_1-Sheet_Faceoff_v3_Lg (1)Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” finds Steve Rogers leading the newly formed team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. But after another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps—one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark’s surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” stars Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, Emily VanCamp, Don Cheadle, Jeremy Renner, Chadwick Boseman, Paul Bettany, Elizabeth Olsen, Paul Rudd and Frank Grillo, with William Hurt and Daniel Brühl.

Anthony & Joe Russo are directing with Kevin Feige producing. Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Nate Moore and Stan Lee are the executive producers. The screenplay is by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. Get ready to pick a side and join the nonstop action playing out on two fronts when Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War” opens in U.S. theaters on May 6, 2016.

First off, as most of us expected, the film does deviate a bit from the comic book storyline that bears the same name. While the comic conflict centered around the Superhero Registration Act, Civil War clearly follows the ongoing manhunt for Bucky “Winter Soldier” Barnes (which may or may not lead to the proposal of a Superhero Registration Act). Secondly, WOW does this thing have an impressive collection of characters. It’s practically a third Avengers movie. You’ve got Cap, Bucky, Black Widow, and Falcon. Plus we know from the end of Ant-Man that he’ll be showing up at some point. Iron Man, War Machine, Hawkeye, Scarlet Witch, and HOLY **** THAT’S BLACK PANTHER!!! What a line-up. Oh yeah, and our old pal Thunderbolt Ross from Incredible Hulk. Sure, why not?

Then there’s the matter of whether or not this will end the same way the comic story did, which…well, you should just read it and find out for yourself.

One of the biggest criticism’s of the Marvel Studios films is that they tend to follow a certain formula: generic villain threatens world with Infinity Stone, hero wins, repeat. Civil War obviously will not be following that formula, and that is such a good thing. This looks to be the best character-driven film the MCU has given us since, well, Winter Soldier. “But he’s my friend.” “So was I.” Are you kidding me? Oh, this is going to be so very, very good.

Anticipation for this film was already pretty high given how good Winter Soldier was. Now that this trailer’s out, and it’s AWESOME, this may very well be the most anticipated film in MCU history. So far, it looks like it will deliver. Cannot wait to see this thing!

Captain America: Civil War comes out on May 6, 2016.
