‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’ Gets Five Minute Preview Before ‘Thor: The Dark World’ 3D Screenings

By October 30, 2013

Despite multiple people at the studio actually thinking The Lone Ranger was a good idea, it’s safe to say that the Walt Disney Company is fairly intelligent when it comes to making decisions about their films. Acquiring Marvel pre-Avengers was certainly a savvy move, and though it remains to be seen how much money the new Star Wars movies rake in, we’re venturing a guess that it will be a lot. So it should come as no surprise that the studio has announced yet another smart business decision in regards to a couple of their anticipated upcoming features.

Fandango reports that Disney has announced a roughly five minute extended preview of Captain America: The Winter Soldier that will play exclusively before 3D screenings of Thor: The Dark World starting on November 8th, 2013. After that amazing trailer for The Winter Soldier, that’s a tough temptation to overcome – even if early buzz pegs the 3D in the Thor sequel as completely unnecessary to the film’s story. (It certainly wasn’t necessary the first time around with our favorite Norse hero.) Here’s what Disney’s Dave Hollis, the executive vice president of theatrical distribution, had to say:

After Marvel’s The Avengers, the Marvel films are more interwoven than ever, and this pairing is the perfect complement to both of the new movies. Thor: The Dark World is going to be an exceptional theatergoing experience, and this sneak peek will really rev fans up for the return of not only the Mighty Avenger but the First Avenger as well.

Translation: we’ll make a lot more money buy forcing fans to buy tickets to a 3D film if they want to see this extended preview. It’s a transparent move, but it’s hard to fault them from a business standpoint. Now, all that’s left is to make the decision of whether or not to cough up the extra cash to see a bit more of Cap’s adventures before that sequel hits in April of next year. Here’s the newest trailer to help you make your own decision:
