Chris Chalk Becomes ‘Gotham’ Series Regular

By May 31, 2015

Back in March, we reported to you that actor Chris Chalk (12 Years a Slave, “Justified”) had joined the cast of Fox’s Batman prequel series “Gotham” as Lucius Fox, a character that becomes an important ally for Bruce Wayne at his family’s company in both the comics and in Christopher Nolan’s Batman film trilogy. He debuted at the end of the first season, and it looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of him in season 2.

According to TV Line, Chalk has been made a series regular for the show’s second season. This is definitely a step in the right direction, as Bruce himself doesn’t have a whole lot of people he can count on as friends and allies outside of Alfred, and the occasional interaction with Jim Gordon. In the closing episodes of the final season, Fox gave Bruce a clue that ultimately led him to discover secret caverns underneath his house: the same that will ultimately become his crimefighting headquarters, the Batcave.

In the show, Fox is serving as a junior executive, as well as in a familiar role as a resident technological genius. In the comics, Fox became a very trusted ally of Bruce Wayne, who the young Wayne heir would ultimately place as the president and CEO of his family’s company, Wayne Enterprises. Christopher Nolan’s film Batman Begins — where Fox was played by Morgan Freeeman — etched out an even more important place for Fox, though, as Batman’s armorer and gadget designer. This role has since largely been carried over into the comics, as well as in the universe of the popular Batman Arkham video games.

Chalk also joins newly-minted series regular Morena Baccarin, who joined the regular cast after playing the recurring role of Dr. Leslie Thompkins in many of the first season’s episodes. “Gotham” season 2 will debut on Fox this fall.
