Chris Columbus Wants to Make Another ‘Harry Potter’ Film

By July 24, 2015

The Harry Potter franchise is without a doubt, not only one of the most profitable film franchises of all time, but also one of the most beloved. With the spin-off film Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them set to come out late next year — as well as a new stage production on the horizon — fans have begun to wonder whether or not we’ll be seeing more from not only the Harry Potter universe, but also from original characters Harry, Hermione, and Ron.

The original eight films had a wide array of directors, but it all started with the original two film adaptations directed by Chris Columbus. In a recent interview with EW Radio, Columbus revealed that he is eager to work back into the world, but instead of directing one of the spin-off films, he’d love to do another film about the central three characters.

Check out what he had to say below:

I would love to go back and do another one. Not ‘Fantastic Beasts’ as much, which I think is going to be amazing, but I would love to do another movie with those three characters — Harry, Hermione, and Ron. I’m just fascinated about what happened to them after the end of the last movie, because then they cut to 18 years ahead. There’s 18 years there of great ‘Harry Potter’ stories.

It’s easy to say that Columbus isn’t alone in wanting more from the original HP trio, but whether or not we’ll actually get it is another question. There’s certainly enough demand to warrant more material, but with J.K. Rowling currently working on another book franchise — as well as her writing the script for Fantastic Beasts — it doesn’t seem like any more books following Harry, Ron, or Hermione are in the cards any time soon.

Although, if fans have learned one thing for sure, it’s that you never know what the future might hold for Harry Potter.
