Chris Evans Responds to Brie Larson as Captain Marvel Reports

By June 4, 2016

Earlier this week, the geek world was set ablaze with excitement when the reports came that Marvel Studios was eyeing Room star and Academy Award-winner, Brie Larson, as their number one choice to play the lead role in their highly-anticipated Captain Marvel movie. A casting choice that has been highly speculated about for years now by fans, ever since the project was first announced by Kevin Feige.

Larson hasn’t commented on the news at all since it came out, but with both Niki Caro and Jennifer Kent being eyed to direct the film as well, it’s looking like Marvel may finally be assembling their creative team for the film now, which will be based on a screenplay by Nicole Perlman and Meg LeFauve.

We’re not the only ones excited about Larson possibly playing Carol Danvers either, as Chris Evans shared his excitement about the possibility while appearing this weekend at Wizard World Philadelphia (via

“I just heard about that. I really hope that happens! I love Brie Larson. We did a movie together back in ’09, Scott Pilgrim vs The World. I cannot say enough about Brie Larson. I think she’s phenomenal, and I really hope that happens.”

Just gonna take this moment real quick to say that if you haven’t seen Scott Pilgrim vs The World at this point either, then you should rent it tonight and prepare to see the world around you come alive again.

Evans is basically echoing what everyones’ reactions to the casting was as well, and considering how many fan choices have been thrown out for the role and how passionate fans have been about this casting in particular over the past few years, that just speaks to how spectacular and universally-loved as an actress Larson is at this point. She’s been balancing larger projects with indies fairly well over the past few years as well, and it seems like if she decides to make Captain Marvel her next project, she’ll already have a couple key Avengers team members on her side.
