Chris Pratt Lands Lead Role In Marvel’s Guardians Of The Galaxy

If you’ll remember, last month I wrote about the MASSIVE race to be Peter Quill a.k.a. Star-Lord in the upcoming Marvel film Guardians Of The Galaxy that included the names Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty), Michael Rosenbaum (Smallville), Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies, The Hobbit), Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables, My Week With Marilyn), Jim Sturgess (Across The Universe, Cloud Atlas), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), John Krasinski (The Office) AND Joseph Gordon Levitt (The Dark Knight Rises).

Once the tweets, rumors and test deals started flying, the race for Star-Lord was becoming quite the sight to behold! But one name I would’ve NEVER thought of in a million years has not only popped enough times to actually trend on Twitter for a few hours on Tuesday, he is also officially your new Star-Lord.

“Who’s the new Star-Lord?!” you ask?

First of all, calm down.

Second of all, it’s THIS GUY.

That’s right, darlings. Chris Pratt, a.k.a. Andy Dwyer, Pawnee’s favorite talented (yet can’t catch a break) musician/City Hall shoe-shiner turned husband turned potential future law enforcement officer with a bit of a Peter Pan complex from the NBC hit show Parks And Recreation (aka Parks and Rec) is your new Guardian.

I know what you’re thinking; normally when you hear the name “Chris Pratt”, you think of THIS guy.

But after remembering how he looked in last year’s Academy Award-nominated Moneyball and THIS bathroom self pic (below) of the 33-year-old Pratt taken last year when he toned down for his role in this year’s Academy Award-nominated Zero Dark Thirty, I’m cool with this choice.

O Hai, ABS.

Now I know he’s gained 60 pounds or so since then for his role in the upcoming comedy The Delivery Man but as we’re all aware, guys tend to shed weight easier than women and seeing as he reached his Zero Dark Thirty-shape in five to six months, he can do it again.

Peter Quill (a.k.a. Star-Lord) is half-alien (mother – human, father – alien) and an expert in close-quarter combat, firearms (both alien and human), battle techniques and is well-versed in the customs, societies and cultures of various alien species.

As I’ve said before, all this means that the actor who landed the role had to be smart, funny and in really good shape, so is it a risky move casting Pratt in the role? Sure. But in this case, I feel someone like Pratt is needed as we know he can do comedy as well as intense (and highly physical) action roles; it’ll be interesting to see him balance the two in portraying the leader of the group fighting to protect the galaxy from evildoers.

Pratt’s wife/baby mama and rocket sauce nerdy girl Anna Faris (Scary MovieLost In Translation) must be tickled pink she’s got her very own officially official Marvel superhero in the household!

As a longtime fan of director James Gunn, I trust his instincts and as he’s confirmed on his Facebook that he’s heading to London for the next nine months (combined with Robert Downey Jr. hinting in a recent interview with EW.com that the Guardians may make an appearance in Iron Man 3), I am absolutely champing at the bit to know about the rest of the cast!!

I’ve got a LOT of time to kill until August 2014, so why not spend it re-familiarizing myself with the Guardians universe through the help of comic books and the Marvel Universe Wiki, right? RIGHT!

Is it 2014 yet? How ’bout now? Now? Now, right? Heh heh, CAN’T WAIT!

Guardians Of The Galaxy is set for release August 1, 2014.
