If you’ve been following the barrage of rumors about the upcoming second season of Nic Pizzolatto’s breakout hit TV series “True Detective,” then this won’t really be new information for you, but since the network just made it official, I figured I might as well let you guys know about it: Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn have officially joined the cast of the show.

Vaughn will play Frank Semyon, a career criminal in danger of losing his empire when his move into legitimate enterprise is upended by the murder of a business partner. And Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective whose allegiances are torn between his masters in a corrupt police department and the mobster who owns him.

Here’s the official logline from the network:

Three police officers and a career criminal must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

Vince Vaughn - Wedding Crashers

We have a heck of a lot more information than that, which you can read here. There are still a few more lead roles yet to be filled, but with filming set to get underway soon, we expect that we’ll be hearing more about those in the next few weeks. Whether Elisabeth Moss, Rosario Dawson, Jessica Biel, or any of the other actresses reportedly up for a co-lead end up snagging the role remains to be seen.

Meanwhile, Fast & Furious director Justin Lin has been confirmed to direct at least the first two episodes of the season, though we’re still waiting to hear who else will end up stepping behind the camera. We’ll give you another update as soon as we hear anything concrete.

Looking forward to seeing where the show goes in its second season? Let us know below.

Can’t wait for this. Not sure it will be as good since I’m not completely thrilled with the casting choices, but I do love the show.
