Comedy Central Picks Up Pilot and New Stand-Up Special for Natasha Leggero

Natasha Leggero - Mechanical Pony

Following a bold appearance on last year’s “Comedy Central Roast of James Franco” and a couple guest spots on the wildly popular social media comedy game show “@Midnight,” comedienne Natasha Legerro has some promising new projects lined up at Comedy Central.

Deadline reports that Leggero has landed a new comedy pilot produced by Ben Stiller’s Red Hour production banner and directed by “Drunk History” co-creator and helmer Jeremy Konner. Leggero created the pilot herself and will star in the series as a Victorian-era heiress along with fellow comedian and film/TV star Riki Lindhome.

Following in the style of the Emmy-nominated “Burning Love” (on which Leggero also guest starred), the series, called “Another Period,” will be shot like a reality show, following The Bellacourts, a worthless family in character but rich in money. Leggero and Lindhome will play sisters Lillian and Beatrice respectively, vain and only worried about fame and big parties, which is something of a novelty in 1902.

As for the one-hour stand-up special, it’s currently untitled, but will be shot at the Wilbur in Boston. Leggero’s stand-up is hilarious, and it shows what a quick wit she has (listen to “Coke Money” to find out). The comedian recently came under fire for a joke make during New Year’s Eve, but her stance following the incident, choosing not to offer an insincere apology to the overly sensitive, caused a bit of a backfire for those who complained. After popping around various shows and having small appearances on comedy showcases, it’s good to see her getting some time in the spotlight on her own. Stay tuned for more.
