The last trailer for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows – which we incorrectly assumed was the final piece of marketing before the film opens in theaters – made the strange choice to re-introduce us to the four green-skinned heroes, as if audiences had somehow managed to spend the past 25 years completely oblivious to their existence. This newest trailer, however, skips the pleasantries and gets straight to the action – and there’s plenty of it.
With a crazy skydiving sequence, a mobile assault featuring the gadget-laden van from the original TMNT animated series, and multiple encounters with mutant bad guys Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (WWE Superstar Stephen “Sheamus” Farrelly), the Turtles certainly have their work cut out for them. And that’s before you throw in an interdimensional invasion heralding the arrival of Krang.
For those unfamiliar, Krang is an alien creature from Dimension X, whose fleshy pink body bears more than a striking resemblance to a human brain and is typically housed in a massive robotic exosuit with a humanoid form. He’s immensely intelligent, unapologetically wicked, and one of the most bizarre villains from the TMNT mythology – and I still can’t believe that he’ll be featured in a live-action film.
The character was originally set to be voiced by Fred Armisen of Saturday Night Live fame, but a scheduling conflict forced to the comedian to drop out of the role, and earlier this week the LA Times announced that Brad Garrett (Everybody Loves Raymond, Fargo) had been tapped to provide the voice instead.
Megan Fox and Will Arnett will reprise their roles from the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film, and will be joined by Arrow star Stephen Amell as the hockey-masked vigilante Casey Jones, and Tyler Perry as mad scientist Baxter Stockman. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows will hit theaters on June 3.
