With Star Wars: The Force Awakens making all the money due to fans flocking to the theater to see it again and again, fans are already beginning to set their sights on the next chapter in the saga. Episode VIII, directed by Rian Johnson, will certainly be another monster hit for Disney, and it’s only 522 days away! Yup, it’ll be here before you know it, kids.
We won’t get into any Force Awakens spoilers here, so let’s just all agree that fans will be (heck, already are) excited to see the story continue. One of the main things that has fans so enthusiastic (aside from, you know, Star Wars) is the fact that it will be written and directed by Rian Johnson. We love Rian Johnson. We love him very much. Breaking Bad? Looper? Plus, he already won the internet with this awesome tweet. Yeah, we have high hopes for this one.
Someone else who’s looking forward to Episode VIII is star Daisy Ridley. Unlike the rest of us, she’s actually read Johnson’s script. Jealous, we all are. And, in a recent interview with Variety, Ridley gave us all hope for the future when asked if she’d read the script already:
I have. It’s very good; very good.
What, were you expecting details? Come on.
While obviously this tells us very little, it at least jives with the high hopes we all have for Episode VIII. After all, The Force Awakens is receiving near-universal praise, so certainly the new trilogy is off to a promising start. Given Rian Johnson’s pedigree, I think we’re all expecting the next chapter to maintain, if not improve upon, the level of quality that J.J.’s film delivered. Ridley has already filmed a few scenes for Episode VIII, with principle photography beginning next year. We’re going to go out on a limb here and say that a few people will probably want to see this one.
Of course, let’s not get ahead of ourselves:
Let’s see “VII” first and then we’ll talk about “VIII.”
Good point, Daisy. Fine, we’ll just go see The Force Awakens again. And again and again and again…
Star Wars: Episode VIII is set for release on May 26, 2017.
