After starring as the lead character in the Harry Potter franchise, which encompassed eight films over a ten year period and was one of the most successful franchises in movie history, it doesn’t look like Daniel Radcliffe has been showing very much interest in returning to the blockbuster or franchise world anytime soon, instead opting to pick more obscure and indie projects like The Woman in Black, What If, Swiss Army Man, and more.
However, it seems like every major or notable celebrity is being asked which superhero they’d want to play onscreen one day now, and it appears as though Radcliffe did actually have an interest in playing one of the most well-known superheroes in pop culture history.
While speaking with Metro UK, Radcliffe revealed that he would have wanted to have played Marvel’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man, if he could have:
“I would’ve been a good Spider-Man but the boat has sailed on that and I’m very happy to watch Tom Holland do it. He’s fantastic.”
Honestly, he certainly has the look to play an older version of Peter Parker, and I could have seen him giving the character a similar turn to what Andrew Garfield did in the flawed Amazing Spider-Man films, which failed due mostly to studio interference and involvement, rather than his pretty incredible performance as the character.
Right now, it looks like Tom Holland is going to be playing Spider-Man for quite some time though, after making his debut in Captain America: Civil War earlier this year to critical acclaim, and already close to finishing principal photography for his first solo turn as the character in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Radcliffe was too old to have played the character for the MCU anyways, with Kevin Feige and co. putting an intense focus on casting a younger actor in the role.
Nonetheless, it’ll be interesting to see, in the coming years, if talks of Radcliffe ever entering into the comic book genre could happen. At this point, with even Al Pacino expressing an interest in appearing in Marvel’s films, it seems like anything’s possible these days.
