Darth Vader Popping Up Again for the Season Finale of ‘Star Wars Rebels’

By February 24, 2015

Next week will bring the season finale of “Star Wars Rebels,” the new animated series that marks the first piece of canon storytelling as part of Disney and Lucasfilm’s reformed galaxy far, far away. And the final episode of the season will have an iconic classic trilogy character making an appearance.

When the episode “Fire Across the Galaxy” airs March 2nd on Disney XD at 9pm ET, we’ll see Darth Vader appearing on the show. Technically this isn’t the first time Vader has popped up on the animated series, since he appeared via hologram speaking to the Inquisitor in an extended version of the hour-long pilot “Spark of Rebellion,” but this will be the first time he shows up in person.

Now here we are, 13 episodes later, ready for the exciting conclusion for this first season of adventures following Ezra, Kanan, Sabine, Hera, Zeb and of course the mischievous droid Chopper. Here’s a clip of what we can expect when the finale airs:

If you’re not caught up, right now our heroes are in the midst of their revolution against the Empire, even going so far as to send out a signal into the universe to not fear the tyrannical overseers of the galaxy. During their efforts, another classic trilogy villain, Grand Moff Tarkin, ended up capturing Kanan, and now our heroes are trying to get him back.

So, how does Darth Vader come into play? Well, our heroes’ little defiant message was noticed by those at the top level of the Empire, so Vader likely isn’t very happy with this little sect of rebels. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of cliffhanger “Star Wars Rebels” ends on since a second season has already been ordered.

And for those curious to see what will happen in the second season, you won’t have to wait long if you’re heading to Star Wars Celebration in April. The second season will premiere at the big Star Wars convention in Anaheim, but there’s no word on when it will hit Disney XD yet. Stay tuned for more.
