Dimension No Longer Owns ‘Halloween’ & Anything Could Happen

By December 29, 2015

According to Bloody Disgusting the Studio that has owned the rights to the Halloween Franchise since Halloween 6: The Curse of Michael Myers may no longer be in control of the product.

With Miramax currently searching for new distributors anything could happen….and I mean anything.

Long time Halloween Producer Malek Akkad mentioned a while back that they were having trouble matching visions with his Director (The Collector‘s Marcus Dunstan) and the studio. Something the Franchise is no stranger to.

Rob Zombie’s insane H2 issues were blamed on the studio with Zombie saying he was rushed through the project.

Famously Curse was well…..cursed. The studio wanted more blood and Akkad wanted more suspense. As usual the studio won and after a lengthy battle we have two versions of that film. It looks like the levee may have finally broke and Akkad is going rogue! Atleast that is what it sounds like from here.

Sadly this will probably only push the next Halloween sequel back even further. That may just end up being a blessing….

As mentioned in the Bloody Disgusting article, what if the rights to the Shape were picked up by one of the studios who currently hold the rights to Freddy, Jason, Leatherface and other Horror greats? What about Ash Vs. Michael Myers? What about a shared universe where all these boogeymen are real?

If you want to really speculate what if this is the true reason a Friday the 13th sequel hasn’t happened yet even though the reboot made so much cash? Could they have been working together and waiting in the wings? Or am I going Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory right now? Someone get me a copy of Catcher in the Rye!

I just want more classic slashers in my life you guys. What do you think is going to happen? Stay tuned to GeekNation for more updates!

Mike Holtz is just a guy looking for any excuse to talk movies and needs to be able to give people a legitimate reason to spend what they spend on popcorn each month. The Dad to a superhero little girl with another on the way, Mike's also written for a few cool websites and talked for a few more. Also, Mike cries like a school girl every time he watches 'Rocky.'

I’ll have an extra helping of that “gravy for the brain” lol and I hope you are right about a shared universe sir. To see the original slashers in a shared universe would be fucking amazing. I don’t need an origin movie for each iconic killer. Just get to the meat and potatoes. A shared universe must have Jason, Freddy, Michael and leatherface. Pinhead vs the Jeepers Creepers monster could be interesting. Maybe Leatherface and the creeper could have a connection. That being said, it sucks that its taking so long for a new Halloween and other slashers movies to get made.

not going to lie… a BIG PART of me wants a horror slasher shared universe as well. I know that would be sorta corny and following the current trend but dammit if it wouldn’t be an awesome, guilty pleasure I would watch the hell out of!
