Disney Aims to Make Up for Comic-Con Absence at D23

By July 21, 2015

Some fans were likely disappointed that Marvel Studios, creators of the most popular superhero films, decided to skip a presentation in Hall H at this year’s Comic-Con International. Well, it looks as though they plan on making up for that no-show at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, since they’re bringing both Marvel and more Star Wars to boot.

According to Deadline, Disney plans to bring the next installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, May 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, to the forefront of their films presentation. This is likely where the studio will show off the film’s first footage, outside of the second post-credits scene in this month’s Ant-Man, along with cast members and other bits of information as they’ve done at D23 in the past. In a lot of ways, Marvel’s presentations at D23 can tend to offer more than some Comic-Con presentations do, and it should be interesting to see if they decide to make any new revelations at their presentation. Recently, Marvel CCO Joe Quesada spoke to IGN about having seen the new film version of Spider-Man’s costume. Could we be seeing that at D23?

That’s not all, though, as Disney will also be bringing this year’s most anticipated film to their expo: Star Wars: The Force Awakens. While Lucasfilm already rocked Hall H with a massive presentation at Comic-Con — followed by a live Star Wars concert — it’s anyone’s guess as to what they’ll bring to the table at D23. At the Comic-Con presentation, director J.J. Abrams revealed that a new trailer for the film shouldn’t be out until the fall, so we’ll have to see how Disney plans on bringing the Force to their own expo.

In addition to these live-action offerings, Disney will also be hosting a presentation looking at what’s to come from Pixar and Disney Animation Studios, hosted by none other than John Lasseter. For more on D23, Star Wars, and Marvel as news develops, keep your eyes on GeekNation!

  • SO stoked to hear! Will definitely make D23 more interesting. Though you may want a bit of a “spoiler warning” with that Ant-man post credit scene nod.
