Disney and Lucasfilm Reveal New ‘Star Wars’ Props and Collectibles

By June 1, 2016

Break out your wallets, Star Wars fans: earlier today, Disney and Lucasfilm pulled back the curtain to reveal the Star Wars Collectibles: Ultimate Studio Edition, a series of high-grade prop replicas from Star Wars: The Force Awakens with an unparalleled level of detail and precision. These pieces are made to order by the Propshop and Pinewood Studios, and they’re crafted using digital data that was captured during the film’s production, to ensure that each piece is an authentic recreation of its screen-used counterpart.

In a press release issued earlier today, Propshop CEO James Enright said:

“We’re delighted to be able to produce such a groundbreaking line of merchandise. Designed, made and finished by the hands of specialist motion picture prop makers and artists, we’ve worked extremely hard to create something that we know would make fans and filmmakers proud.”

The initial run features eight different props: Darth Vader’s melted helmet, Rey’s lightsaber hilt, FN-2187 Stormtrooper helmet, Kylo Ren’s helmet and lightsaber hilt, Poe Dameron’s X-Wing helmet, Rey’s staff, and Chewbacca’s Bowcaster. Due to the fact that each piece is hand-crafted after an order has been placed, there will be limited production runs on every item – in other words, you’ll want to act pretty quickly to make sure you can get your hands on one of these.

If you want to get a look at the incredible level of detail that goes into crafting these prop replicas, you can check out this brief video that takes you behind the scenes of the production process:

The props will not only come with custom-made display cases to showcase your expensive new purchase, but they’ll also be shipped in custom wooden crates that resemble the same crates used to ship props directly to the set of the film. That might seem like a bit of a minor detail, but it’s just the sort of thing that hardcore fans will appreciate – a sentiment that is echoed by Josh Silverman, executive vice president of global licensing at Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media:

“We are continually looking for new ways to extend the storytelling from movies in innovative ways. We’ve worked hand in hand with the film makers and talented team at Propshop to create a unique product experience for fans and we’re excited to see their reactions to these incredible prop replicas.”

The Star Wars Collectibles: Ultimate Studio Edition will be available exclusively through the product line’s official website. You can check out a handful of photos below, and head over to StarWarsUltimateStudioEdition.com to see more – and maybe even make a purchase.
