The new animated series “Star Wars Rebels” doesn’t officially kick off until tomorrow night with the premiere of “Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion” on both Disney XD and Disney channel at 9pm ET/PT, but the series has already been guaranteed more adventures.

Today, in a move that should surprise absolutely no one, Disney Channel announced that they have already renewed “Star Wars Rebels” for a second season on Disney XD. The animated series was screened at Comic-Con this past summer (we’ve talked about the first two episodes already), but it’s probably not the warm reception from San Diego that made the renewal possible as much as the confidence in the fact that fans will undoubtedly turn out for this series, and anything Star Wars will pretty much be a success on television leading up to Episode VII in 2015.

Here’s the official synopsis of the new animated series coming this month:

The Jedi have been wiped out and the Empire spreads tyranny through the galaxy. Hope runs thin. But on the small planet of Lothal a big change is looming. A group of rebels meet a 14-year-old con artist named Ezra and soon it’s clear their destinies are linked. Aboard their ship, the Ghost, Ezra and the rebels embark on an adventure to ignite a rebellion and strike back against the Empire.

Following the TV movie “Star Wars Rebels: Spark of Rebellion” the regular series will debut on Monday, October 13th at 9pm ET/PT. Here’s your standard publicity fluff about the renewal from Lucasfilm’s VP of Creative Development, Kiri Hart:

We all love making ‘Rebels,’ so we couldn’t be happier that it’s moving into a second season. Our fantastic creative team is dreaming up new stories for the crew of the Ghost that will expand their experience of the galaxy and deepen their heroes’ journeys. The fan response to the show has been amazing, humbling and inspiring. We’re looking forward to the adventure ahead.

And if you just can’t wait until the series starts, here’s the first seven minutes for you to check out now:

Obviously we’ll be keeping up with the new animated series and all things Star Wars. We just caught a glimpse of what is reportedly a chrome stormtrooper from Star Wars: Episode VII and three unfinished episodes of “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” were just made available online, so there’s always something going on in a galaxy far, far away. Stay tuned.
