‘Doctor Who’: New Season 8 Trailer Features Daleks and Dinosaurs

By July 14, 2014

This weekend, Whovians (and I’m one of them) got a brand new trailer for Season 8 of “Doctor Who.” We’ve had a long wait between seasons and we’re getting a look at what the Twelfth Doctor (Peter Capaldi) is going to be like. Even Clara (Jenna Coleman) isn’t quite sure what to make of him. “I don’t know who the Doctor is anymore,” she says in the trailer. Later, Twelve asks her if he’s “a good man.” So, is he? He’s talking about fixing all the mistakes he’s made over the past two thousand years, so that’s a good sign.

Doctor Who

We’re going “into darkness,” this season, with a new Doctor that we were promised is less of a “boyfriend” Doctor. Now, I know you all might not agree, but last season left me cold. I felt like they wanted to move in a darker direction back then, and ended up squandering the intense chemistry between Coleman and Eleven (Matt Smith). (They sort of covered the dark thing with the last two companions’ [Arthur Darville and Karen Gillan] exits.) I’m really excited to see what happens this time around. Now, I could do that right now, as the first episode of the season, “Deep Breath,” has already leaked online. This came after 5 scripts made their way to the Internet. Reportedly, this was all part of the same security breach, and the episode is not finished, and still in black and white. So, we’re not watching, right? I want to be surprised.

Speaking of that, what were you surprised to see in the trailer? The return of the Daleks was inevitable (and that voice makes me so happy). There was a dinosaur and the return of Madame Vastra (Neve McIntosh)! I don’t know about you, but I’m still heartbroken about Jenny (Catrin Stewart). Does this mean we’ll see the potato thing, Strax (Dan Starkey) again? Please, oh please bring back the potato thing!

So, what did you think of the trailer? Let us know below. “Doctor Who” returns to BBC and BBC America on August 23. Make sure you check out my “Doctor Who” podcast right here on GeekNation!
