Edgar Wright's Ant-Man pic

Those of you who are big fans of director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End) will know that the filmmaker has a strong online presence on Twitter and on his personal website. He famously posted one picture a day when he was working on Scott Pilgrim vs. The World a few years ago, when he teased the first look photos of many of his cast members in character as Scott, Ramona, and the rest of the gang. Now, Collider has noticed that Wright may be at it again: even though he’s not in production on Ant-Man quite yet, the director has posted a picture of the superhero to his site and it has the fanboy community scrambling to try to glean some meaning from it.

The photo (seen above) is from an episode of “Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes” called “To Steal an Ant-Man,” which features the character of Scott Lang stealing the Ant-Man suit from original inventor Hank Pym. In the comics, Lang – a reformed thief – gets back into the life of crime when his daughter falls ill; he steals Pym’s Ant-Man suit and saves the only doctor who can save his daughter’s life. Pym then tells him he can keep the suit, but only if he uses its abilities for good and not evil. Could that be the plot of Wright’s upcoming live-action adaptation of the Marvel character? The thought has crossed our minds before.

We know Paul Rudd snagged the lead role in the movie, but curiously, the official press release didn’t mention which character Rudd would play. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has previously mentioned that this would be a heist film of sorts, and that description definitely squares up with Lang’s storyline as depicted in the comics. Could all of these factors – including Wright’s posting of this photo – be steps toward a Lang-filled version of Ant-Man? Our money’s on “yes,” and we’ll keep you posted with more as we hear it.
