It started with a fan film trailer…

…and once it hit the internet, something awesome happened: the producers of the fan film were given the film rights with the approval of the creators of the 35-year-old comic book series known as ElfQuest.

Even better, the new owners are WOMEN.

ElfQuest: A Fan Imagining producers Stephanie Thorpe (in blue) and Paula Rhodes.

Once the multi-award winning project started picking up speed AND fans (old and new alike) at Comic-Con and WonderCon panels, being featured in outlets like the New York Times, CBS and G4’s Attack of the Show, it was clear to the ElfQuest comic book (now in it’s 35th year) creators Wendy and Richard Pini that indie producers Stephanie Thorpe and Paula Rhodes were the right choice to have the film rights once Warner Bros let go of the option.

“Paula Rhodes and Stephanie Thorpe more than proved themselves to us with their award-winning “ElfQuest : A Fan Imagining“. With their deep love and understanding of the property, they represent a new direction for ElfQuest…new creative energy and new connections in the larger media.” – ElfQuest co-creator, Wendy Pini.

As HUGE fans of the the comic book series themselves (the ElfQuest official website gets 10 million views a month, has a global following in 12 countries AND has been published by BOTH Marvel and DC Comics), Thorpe and Rhodes know the score and are ready.

“We are thrilled to bring ElfQuest, a tale that has influenced our storytelling and imaginations, to life for new and existing fans,” said Thorpe, “The global fan support we’ve received has been amazing.”

Rhodes added, “When we discovered our shared lifelong love for this series we were spurred to action. ElfQuest gave us heroines we could aspire to be and its magic shaped us, ultimately leading us into the creative entertainment sphere. We owe it a lot!”

Sisters really ARE doing it for themselves and I can’t WAIT to see what happens next!
