Exclusive: Strong Female Character Added to ‘Star Wars: Episode VIII’ – Who Could it Be?

By August 21, 2015

A lot of what we think we know about Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens and the rest of the upcoming trilogy, has been mostly based on hearsay and speculation. The reality is that we don’t really know all that much about what’s to come in the Star Wars films. We don’t know who some of the characters will be, and we don’t really know what some of their backstories are. I have absolutely no clue what the deal is with “The Knights of Ren” and Kylo Ren, but I have my theories and I’ll continue to have them until the movie proves them wrong.

However, we here at GeekNation have gotten our hands on a new scoop regarding one of the new characters of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII, that can lead to some very interesting questions regarding what we think we know about The Force Awakens or some of the characters in it, at least.

According to one of our inside sources, we have heard that Disney and Lucasfilm are currently in the midst of looking for a strong, young female character to be featured heavily in Star Wars: Episode VIII. Our sources say that Rian Johnson himself has been heavily involved in the process as well. So this should be some exciting news for all you female SW fans out there because a new, strong female character will be introduced into the new trilogy in Episode VIII. We know that for sure.

Here’s where things get a little more interesting though. According to our anonymous source, the role isn’t for just a completely new female character in the series, but the character is allegedly Han Solo’s daughter in the film. Now, I know what you’re going to say. That doesn’t make any sense because Daisy Ridley’s Rey is Han Solo’s daughter right? That’s why they’re keeping her last name secret after all, and I mean, we saw her piloting the Millennium Falcon at one point! There’s no way she’s not Han’s daughter right?

But do we actually know for sure that Ridley’s character is the Solo daughter? It’s entirely possible, and we here at the GeekNation offices were even a little confused when we heard this scoop for the first time. However, wouldn’t it be really interesting if Han Solo’s daughter isn’t even introduced until Episode VIII? What if The Force Awakens does end up mostly focusing on introducing us to some completely new characters, and maybe some of them have ties to characters from the past, but not nearly as many as most of the fan speculation has pointed at.

Judging by some insider details that we have about the role, it seems like the new, female character will have strong ties to the Solo family, and all signs seem to be pointing towards her being Han’s daughter. No frontrunner has been revealed yet for the role, and it’s likely that Disney and Lucasfilm will want to keep it a secret until after the release of The Force Awakens. But all in all, it’s looking more and more like the Star Wars universe is in store for an even stronger female presence in its future.

Star Wars: Episode VIII is set to be released on May 26th, 2017!

Han…but not Leia as well? Is that intentional?

    • Hard to say. Our insider only provided info that paralleled a little of Solo’s background.

Or misinformation to throw us of the scent for Rey. If Finn and Rey aren’t connected to existinging characters it is stupid for lucasfilm and jj Abrams to not give us their last names because it they turn out to be random people it will lead to disapponent. What I just can’t figure out is why Finn would be a stormtrooper and Rey would be on a junk planet looking for scrap. Maybe she hasn’t been there long or is looking for something specific… Parts to the falcon to fix it up? Maybe Finn is Hans son after he broke up with leia after return of the Jedi and he is now a dead beat dad? All I know is that if Luke doesn’t have a son in force awakens he better have one by episode 8 or 9 to carry the male skwalker gene/name on. There should always be a skywalker in the “main” non anthology movies.

I mean Han is the dead beat dad not Finn. Or never knew he had a son named Finn. Heck maybe it’s his grandson from a relationship before he met Leia.

    • Agreed. Exciting to think about though.

    • Indiana Blotto’s Last Crusade

What if Rey is Finn’s aunt? (Rey being the daughter of Han and Leia, Finn being Han’s grandson via his now-canon first marriage – Han’s first wife was black.) Mind blown.

    • Indiana Blotto’s Last Crusade

I think Hux will turn out to be Luke’s son undercover.

      • This is an interesting theory. Now you’ve got my head spinning with all the possibilities….

    • Could not agree with you more. I’m still crossing my fingers that Kylo Ren ends up being Luke’s son, and not Han or Leia’s, like the popular belief. But that’s a conversation for another time.

Why would this only be exciting news for ‘female Star Wars fans’? Surely this should just be exciting news for all Star Wars fans?

    • Here’s the reality: If we were to say [all] Star Wars fans, then several jerks are going to come on here and say, “why the hell do we care that a female was cast?”. Lack of strong female characters is normally a bigger issue with females (males and starting to come around and that’s a good thing).
