It’s been 13 years since Disney/Pixar’s Finding Nemo captured the hearts of moviegoers across the world, thanks in no small part to an amnesia-stricken blue tang named Dory (voiced by Ellen DeGeneres). In the years that followed the film’s staggering success, DeGeneres engaged in a good-natured campaign to convince the studio that a sequel needed to happen, and Finding Dory was officially announced in 2013.

Since that time, we’ve learned that the film will follow Dory’s quest to be reunited with her parents, and in addition to featuring a handful of familiar faces from the original film, we’ll be introduced to a host of new aquatic characters. You can check some of them out in the brand new Finding Dory trailer below.

In addition to Albert Brooks returning as Marlin, Kaitlin Olson will provide the voice of Destiny, a whale shark with ties to Dory’s past; Ty Burrell is Bailey, a beluga whale who has trouble controlling his sonar ability; Ed O’Neill is a cantankerous octopus named Hank, and Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy will voice Dory’s parents, Jenny and Charlie.

As a huge fan of Finding Nemo (and Ellen DeGeneres herself), I’ve been incredibly excited for this film ever since it was first announced. Pixar doesn’t have a perfect record when it comes to sequels, but with director Andrew Stanton returning for Finding Dory, I’m confident that fans like myself won’t be left with another misfire along the lines of Cars 2.

Plus, from a thematic standpoint this seems to be in line with some of Pixar’s more emotional offerings. Dory is struggling to find her place in the world, longing for a familial connection and trying not to let her disability be a burden to herself or to her others – all things that just about everyone can relate to in some way. Pixar has always managed to strike a balance between fun-filled entertainment and weightier subject matter, and this will likely continue that trend.

Finding Dory swims into theaters on June 17.
