‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ Featurette Gives an Inside Look at the Film’s Magical Characters

By February 1, 2016

Late last year, Warner Bros. revealed the first official images, story details, and trailer for their upcoming Harry Potter spin-off, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, that gave us our first inside look at the highly-anticipated return to the Wizarding World. Now, the studio has unveiled a new, behind-the-scenes featurette for the film and while that might sound boring ordinarily, for maybe the first time in a long time, this featurette actually gives us new information to chew on about the film.

Check out the official featurette below (via Pottermore):

Of course the featurette puts a full spotlight on creator J.K. Rowling, who not only created the entire world and characters that both this and the Potter franchise followed, but has also stepped into the screenwriting world for the first time after penning the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts. We get a quick glimpse of the author strolling around during her set visit last year, as well as learning the role that each of the film’s main heroes seem to play in its story, while Samantha Morton’s seemingly villainous contingent is absent from the featurette.

Of the characters mentioned and shown, Alison Sudol’s Queenie and Colin Farrell’s Graves are the most intriguing at this point, and not only because I love both actors, but they seem perfectly cast in their roles as well. Both seem to be exploring areas of the fictional world that were only slightly touched upon in the original franchise, whether it be Queenie’s abilities as a legilimens or Graves’ career as an Auror, which gives me hope that Fantastic Beasts will serve more as a complimentary spin-off to the Potter franchise, that offers greater insight into the mythological parts of the Wizarding World, rather than just a forced cash grab from the studio.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set to hit theatres on November 18th.
