‘Fast 8’ Adds ‘Game of Thrones’ Actor as Villain

By April 7, 2016

The Fast and Furious franchise has had its fair share of action villains over the years, whether it be the antagonistic relationship with The Rock’s Hobbs in Fast Five, Luke Evans’ somewhat forgettable Shaw, and then most recently with Jason Statham’s fun, but somewhat bland Ian Shaw. It looks like the newest film, Fast 8 though, has found a villain in one of the best supporting actors on HBO’s Game of Thrones.

TheWrap is reporting that Thrones actor, Kristofer Hivju, will be playing a “tough henchman” in the film, with no other details available at the moment. He’s the first new addition to the Fast 8 cast as well, which will be directed by Straight Outta Compton‘s F. Gary Gray, and will take the franchise back to its New York City roots.

Hivju is of course, most well-known for his work as Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones, a stubborn and violent wildling leader that’s forced to work with Jon Snow in order to help and save the North from complete and utter destruction. He’s quickly emerged over the past few seasons as one of the best supporting characters on the series as well, and it’ll be interesting to see how he does in the action-heavy Fast 8.

The film’s lead star, Vin Diesel, has talked quite a bit about the new film over the past few months, teasing the film’s closer connections to the original street racing premise of the franchise, as well as its settings. Charlize Theron has been rumored for a villain role in the film as well recently, though it looks like nothing has been set in stone yet when it comes to her involvement, though I’d pay good money to see her and Hivju have a villainous dynamic onscreen together.

Fast 8 will hit theatres on April 14th, 2017.
