‘Fast and Furious’ Star Joins FOX’s ‘Lethal Weapon’ Pilot

By March 3, 2016

So remember that Lethal Weapon TV show that’s happening right now that no one really wants to be happening right now? Yeah, it’s still happening, and after recently casting Damon Wayans Sr. as the TV version of Danny Glover’s Roger Murtaugh, a decision I still haven’t fully come to terms with, the series has found yet another lead star.

Spoiler alert: No, they still haven’t recast Mel Gibson’s Martin Riggs. Because good luck with that.

According to a new report from Variety though, Fast and Furious star Jordana Brewster has reportedly been cast in the new series as Maureen Cahill, a Los Angeles Police Department hostage negotiator, and also in-house therapist that works with traumatized cops. She joins Wayans Sr. and Golden Brooks in the new series.

Despite being most well-known for her roles on the silver screen, this isn’t Brewster’s first venture into the TV world though, after her work on shows like Secrets and Lies, Dallas, and her current role in The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

The Lethal Weapon franchise is perhaps the most quintessential buddy cop action comedy of the genre, with few other films or shows being able to replicate the same chemistry that Riggs and Murtaugh had onscreen. With McG directing the pilot episode as well, it doesn’t look like they’re necessarily trying to bring in the same kind of talent as the original films either.

I’ve shared my disinterest with this series plenty of times before though because out of all of the other 80s and 90s adaptations/reboots that are currently circulating the industry right now, this one just seems like the most useless. Depending on how they cast Riggs in this series as well, there may be a large number of Lethal Weapon fans out there who are about to get a whole lot angrier.

The Lethal Weapon TV show is currently in development.
