Now that we’ve had just over a week to adequately absorb and digest Marvel’s Luke Cage, it’s time to start salivating over the studio’s next entry into their “street level” superhero franchises. To that end, Marvel and Netflix hosted a panel at New York Comic Con yesterday to finally pull back the curtain and introduce audiences to Danny Rand (Finn Jones), better known to comic book fans as Iron Fist.
You can check out the first Iron Fist trailer right here.
Fifteen years after being presumed dead in a plane crash, Danny Rand comes home to New York City, a master of martial arts and imbued with incredible abilities. We see a hint of those powers here, with Danny punching a reinforced steel door hard enough to crumple it like a tin can – and of course, the requisite hallway fight sequence that Marvel seems to love so much.
According to Jones (via his Instagram), the first season of Iron Fist wrapped production just a few hours before the NYCC presentation. Fans in attendance were treated to several scenes from the upcoming series, and the response has been almost universally positive. Unfortunately, it looks like the rest of us will have to wait a bit longer for some of that footage, as Marvel doesn’t seem to have any plans to release it online.
The series also features David Wenham as Harold Meachum, a former business associate of Danny’s late parents; Jessica Stroup and Tom Pelphrey as Harold’s children Joy and Ward Meachum, childhood friends looking forward to reuniting with Danny; and Jessica Henwick is Colleen Wing, owner of a martial arts dojo who becomes a trusted ally. Iron Fist will also boast some other characters from the Netflix Marvel universe, with Carrie-Anne Moss reprising her Jessica Jones role as ruthless attorney Jeri Hogarth, and Rosario Dawson returning as Claire Temple, the glue that holds these shows together.
Iron Fist will be headed to Netflix on March 17, 2017.
