10 years ago a small Firefly class spaceship and a renegade crew changed the sci-fi universe forever! The series captured the hearts and minds of all who watched, but sadly there weren’t enough people watching, and within 3 months the show was cancelled. Worshiped by legions of devoted fans Jos Whedon’s story is still alive 10 years later! A decade later the gang is back together to share real stories, behind the short-lived series, that became a sci-fi phenomenon.
They celebrated the 10th anniversary with a panel at Comic-Con in San Diego, and the good people at The Science Channel or Science as it’s not called, were there to capture all of the excitement, fun and a special round-table discussion with the cast, producer, writers and creator that took place in private.
On Sunday November 11, the Science Channel will bring you a Firefly 10th Anniversary Special Event! (Yes, that’s THIS Sunday!)
The Firefly 10th Anniversary Special Event and round-table included Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk, Morena Baccarin, Sean Maher, Adam Baldwin, Jewel Staite and Summer Glau. They were also joined by writer Jose Molina and the show’s executive producer Tim Minear and of course Joss Whedon, to talk about all things Firefly.
GeekNation was given a special screening of this television event, and all I can say is that this is an absolute MUST SEE for anyone who considers themselves a Firefly fan. Science was even nice enough to slip us a few exclusive photos of the cast & crew behind the scenes.
They cover everything from the early beginnings, the pilot, and how they went about launching the show; to the day that they all found out they had been cancelled. There are no bigger Firefly fans than the people who worked on the show, and I have to admit that I got tears in my eyes a few times as they retold the story of the making of Firelfy.
At 8pm on Sunday you will see Firefly: Special Edition “Heart of Gold” and at 9pm you will see Firefly: Special Edition “Objects in Space.” Go to The Science Channels website for a weekly schedule of programs where you can click a box to get a special reminder so that you don’t forget to watch!
Also keep an ear out because GeekNation’s own, Erik Dellums who does a lot of our very own GeekNation voice-overs, also did the voice-over for the Firefly anniversary special.
Now, if you want even more Firefly, Science is having a little contest on Twitter called “Flock to Unlock.” Science just so happens to have two hours of extra “Firefly” footage that didn’t make it into the special, and all you have to do if you want to see this extra footage is tweet @ScienceChannel using hashtag #FireflyNov11, and Science will unlock a new video for every 5,000 tweets they receive. Pretty cool, huh? You better get on it!
