‘Firefly’ Producer Tim Minear is Down For a Limited Series Reunion

By February 13, 2014

Well, Browncoats everywhere must be rejoicing at this news! After years of bemoaning the cancellation of Joss Whedon’s cult TV show “Firefly,” it looks like there may be a sliver of hope regarding its return.

In an interview with EW, former “Firefly” producer/writer Tim Minear hints at the possibility of a reunion via a limited series on something like Netflix.

Here’s what Minear had to say about a Firefly reboot:

I’m completely talking off the top of my head, but there’s a show that’s been on for the last couple years that’s reinvented the form in terms of the limited series. I’m trying to think of the name of that show — Oh yes! American Horror Story! It doesn’t have to be 13 episodes. Look how Sherlock does it….I think a limited series of some kind would work best. Something like that could also work if, say, 20th [Century Fox, who owns the rights] could partner with Netflix, or another distributor. It would have its home on Fox, of course [then a second window on streaming]. A limited series would do very well, I bet.

Now one of the biggest obstacles standing in the way of a “Firefly” reunion in the past is the fact that mostly everyone involved with the original series has moved on to other projects. Hey, just because the fans haven’t moved on doesn’t mean everyone else hasn’t!

Minear is careful to stress that there is nothing even remotely in the works and although he’s definitely on the right path, even a limited series would take huge commitments from everyone involved. So, it’s still  a long shot, but let’s just go ahead and  look at it as a hopeful sign, shall we?

the season and think it’s absolutely fantastic so would love to see it come back in any form.
