First DLC Pack for ‘Batman: Arkham Knight’ Gets Detailed and Dated

By July 3, 2015

Last Tuesday, WB Games released Rocksteady Studios’ grand finale with DC Comics’ biggest icon by releasing Batman: Arkham Knight on Xbox One, PS4, and PC. This week, we released our review of the game, in which we were very impressed by what Rocksteady had to offer for their final Batman adventure. Still, the story of the full Arkham Knight experience isn’t quite over just yet. Previously, we detailed that the game would be offering a season pass, which would include six additional months of DLC content in the form of new missions, challenge maps, and Batmobile race tracks. Now, according to a European press release (via IGN), we know that the first DLC mission for the game will be coming out on July 14th.

Entitled Batgirl: A Matter of Family, the new content will give players their first-ever chance within the Arkham series to play as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl in a story set sometime before the events of 2009’s Batman: Arkham Asylum. In the main Arkham Knight story, we were given a firsthand glimpse of the Joker’s assault on Barbara that confines her to a wheelchair, and which leads her to becoming Batman’s primary information broker and computer expert, Oracle. The synopsis for the forthcoming content reads,

Batgirl: A Matter of Family will allow players to take on the role of Batgirl for the first time in the Batman: Arkham franchise. This exciting story add-on features an all-new location with multiple missions, side quests and secrets; a new hacking feature to progress through the world and solve puzzles; and Dual Play functionality with Robin for dynamic take-down maneuvers.

The Batgirl: A Matter of Family add-on content was developed by WB Games Montréal and was created using the Batman: Arkham Knight engine built by Rocksteady Studios. The remaining Batman: Arkham Knight Season Pass add-on content is under development by Rocksteady Studios.

It’s interesting to see that this content is being created by WB Games Montréal, who were the developers of the 2013 prequel game Batman: Arkham Origins. It’s unknown exactly how long before the events of Arkham Asylum this story will take place, or which Robin (Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, or Tim Drake) Batgirl will be partnering with.

Batgirl: A Matter of Family will be available for free to Season Pass-holders of Batman: Arkham Knight on July 14th, and will be made available to everyone on July 21st for a price of around $7-10. For more on Arkham Knight content as it takes shape, keep a tab open to GeekNation.
