Already shaping itself up to be one of the most promising Stephen King film adaptations in years, The Dark Tower has assembled an incredibly strong cast for itself over the past few months, including Matthew McConaughey as the villainous Man in Black, a Mad Max: Fury Road breakout star as the film’s female lead, and more. Suffice it to say, King’s magnum opus may be getting an onscreen treatment worthy of The Dark Tower title.

One of the most exciting announcements to come out of the project as well, is Idris Elba’s casting as Roland Deschain a.k.a. The Gunslinger, the main hero of the film, who sounds more and more like something that Elba could seriously knock out of the park, depending on the execution by director Nikolaj Arcel.

As filming on the movie progresses farther ahead as well, our first set images of Elba in costume as the Gunslinger have been revealed. They’re not much, but man the image of seeing Elba dressed up as a old west gunslinger is an exciting one, isn’t it?

King’s original Dark Tower series is perhaps one of the writer’s most vivid and engrossing stories he’s ever told (he certainly seems to think so at least), and while the skepticism surrounding the project up until this point has been understandable, it’s hard not to have a hopefully optimistic attitude towards the film. Especially after these images of Elba dressed up as a legitimate, old west Gunslinger.

The Dark Tower is set to hit theatres on February 17th, 2017.
